I am pretty much a live and let live kind of guy.
Here comes the ‘but’.
But (see, I warned you), the new trend of young girls and the apparent need to be judged in social media, as “pretty” is one that gives me at least a little bit of pause.
Essentially, it tells of a growing trend where young girls (as in 12 and 13 year olds) are posting pics with the intent of being rated. And when I say rated, I mean rated by total strangers.
Sure, the concept is nothing new, given the number of online dating services out there. That’s for adults though.
I guess for me, the idea that these impressionable young girls can handle — and handle well the rejection and criticism and picking apart of their pic is most concerning. Remember, just like the pageants on TV, not every contestant is deemed pretty. And nobody likes to be called ugly. Which apparently happens a lot in these digital pageants. Give it a read. And let me know what you think.
